Who would have thought 18 years ago this coming August, that a simple idea to start a support group among friends would blossom into what it is today.

The Jasper County Area Support Group is our newest Eljay Foundation group.  We are happy to announce that the group meets the 2nd Monday of each month at 6:00 pm at Shultz Funeral Home at 1900 South Wheeler in Jasper, Tx 75951.  They provide information, and frequently have speaker meetings for anyone affected by Parkinson’s disease.  They also serve light refreshments and water.  They are a very supportive and welcoming group.  If you or a loved one has Parkinson’s disease this group is ready to help you.  For information contact Blake Sayers at 409-698-8101.

Eljay’s Lunch Crew was created by the members of our support group who enjoy going out to lunch once a month together.  We meet on an agreed upon date at a restaurant chosen by the members of the support group.  We pick local restaurants who meet our group’s criteria.  They must have a good parking lot that is handicap accessible. They must be able to seat us together in groups of about 20.  The restaurant must also be handicap accessible. We meet at 1:00 pm at the chosen restaurant.  We usually have a great lunch and even greater fellowship.  It helps build comradery which is important.  We don’t want anyone to feel like they are alone.  For more information please call Eligha Guillory Jr at 337-426-0778 or Sandy McNeely Duhon at 337-515-9341.

If you are not currently a member of one of our support groups, we invite you to join us for lunch to ask questions and find out more about what we offer in our support group meetings. It will be a great opportunity for us to meet.

*PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS DUTCH TREAT AS LUNCHES ARE NOT PROVIDED.

Coming Back Soon

We now have a walking group.  Several couples meet at one of the recreation centers to walk together.  There is so much information that tells us that exercise is the best thing you can do if you have Parkinson’s disease.  The group walks for about an hour, at each individual’s own pace. Some walk more slowly than others.  It’s not about how fast you walk, it’s more about being out and getting some exercise, taking it slowly at first and building up strength.  And being with others who are in the same situation.  The fellowship is very rewarding.  For information on where to meet contact Peggy Woodson at 337-496-4941.
